Navy: Miniature Medals

The following is a study of the Navy regulations concerning miniature medals. In general if there are not specific regulations concerning miniature medals, we assume that they follow the full size medals.

Ripped from the Regs: Medal Configuration

See the following chart taken from the regulations.

Navy Miniature Medal Configurations Chart

Wear five medals in a row.

Wear up to 5 miniature medals in a row with no overlap.  Arrange 6 or more according to the chart above.

Wear only miniature medals.

Do not wear ribbons on uniforms requiring miniature medals.

Note: There is no direct description on how miniature devices are to be worn on miniature medals, though general terms are used that imply the devices are to be distributed horizontally.

Miniature Medal Configuration Examples

The following is an example of a five medal mount.

Navy Miniature Male Medal Example Configurations.

Ripped from the Regs: Device Configuration

Wear miniature devices, except for the regular size oak leaves.

Attachments for miniature medals are ⅛ inch except the bronze and silver oak leaf clusters which are 5/16 inch.  If four oak leaves are worn the fourth will be placed above the middle oak leaf in a row of three.

Interpretation

Note: The previous are the only device regulations that specifically reference miniature medals for the rest of the regulations please see the Navy Ribbon Regulations or Navy Medal Regulations.

As for the rack builder we interpret the regulations concerning miniature medals as follows:

  • Devices will be placed horizontally and centered
  • Medals will never be overlapped
  • The maximum amount of medals per row is 5
